Sorry for the late response to this - I haven't had access to a Linux
machine, but either way, I'm afraid I don't use Emacs; maybe someone else on
this list can help. In fact, I have never used Emacs (apart from MicroEmacs
in 1994, which doesn't count. For some reason, when they upgraded the
mainframe when I was at university in Christmas '93, they couldn't port
Emacs to it so I never used it from then and got used to other text editors
instead. I've certainly never used the X version of it.
I can't see why it would cause the problem either, and I'm not willing to
try and replicate the problem I'm afraid, for obvious reasons. The world of
X is a mystery to me. I'm glad GTK+ shields most of that world from me.

thanx for responding.i had logged as root itself.when i verified in the
rpms presents it is showing that some files related to emacs are notfound.
but i could not get the rpm again.its version is emacs-X11-20.5-7
files related to this is corrupted and also related to fvwm32.i downloaded
the latest version of emacs.when rpm is done it is not getting
installed.presently i am using redhat linux 6.1.
can i install emacs again from the Cd.
