different search engines do it in different ways,
some require you to register with them and others,
like google, 'crawl' the web and find you web page
automaticaly. this crawl in continuous so when you 
post a new web site up it will only be a matter of
time before it is picked up. the best thing to do
is to go to each search engine that you wish to 
be located with and see if you do require to register 
with them.
