I have a brand new clean install of IIS.  On my development machine I am 
trying to create a new project but it won't authentic my username and 
password.

I am wondering if this is related to the fact that if I try to connect to 
an existing web site instead, that the default website and the 
administrators website do not appear in the drop down.  Only <web root> 
appears.

Why is this and what authentication is it actually checking when it tries 
to create the new website.
