The reason is the change of the DOM (Document Object Model). You'll have to
go and research on what is the differences between IE5.5 and 6's calls, the
right either one set for both (thus giving some up here and gaining some
there) of write two sets - if the user logs on with ie 6, take him/her to
index for 6, etc.
