javascript_objects thread: Conditions in CSS?

MessageIt's an age-old problem. Indeed, I just read this from the moderator
of another list I'm on:

Please do not use this group for general interest posts as there are
many and better groups for doing this. I know it is convenient to post to
this group, and you will likely get a good answer given the high quality of
the members, but the high quality of the members is so because of the focus
of the group, and I do not want to lose that.

So while it's understandable to want to do it, it's always a risk in that
too many of them may force readers of the list to leave. Sadly, the very
benefit of trying to do it not only decreases the future chance of getting
an answer to off-topic posts, but it of course may also lead to a decreased
chance of getting *on*-topic ones answered.

But you make a great point about proposing a new CSS or DHTML list for Wrox.
If no one hears you here, looks like (from the p2p.wrox.com front page) that
it would be best to email feedback@p... with that.

  Charlie,

yes, I know this was OT for the list.

But since there is so much knowledge on this list,
and that people that know JavaScript good also usually are good at CSS
(because of DHTML),
I chose to post it here anyway.

Also, why I cross-posted it is because there are different people on
different lists,
and I wanted to get as much good input as possible (as fast as possible),
although I do agree with
you that cross-posting should be avoided.

  Conclusion:
Sorry for the OT, but I took a chance sinsce there isn't any pure CSS (or
DHTML) list (hint to WROX...).

  /Robert

Does that really have anything to do with using Objects in Javascript?
Isn't that the focus of this list?

I see that you've posted the question on the javascript list (rather
than this "javascript objects" one). I think folks interested in the subject
should go look there. In fact, they can go online and already see 10
responses to the thread since this morning, at
http://p2p.wrox.com/archive/javascript/2002-01/10.asp

Cross-posting like that should be discouraged when possible.

Is there a way to write conditions in CSS, and then apply appropriate
format?

For example, I'd like to write it something like this:

      #theDiv{width:(navigator.appVersion == "Netscape")? "400px" : "200px"}

Also, does anyone know of any REALLY advanced online CSS
tutorials/examples?

       /Robert
