2. What's your job title and briefly what does your job entail?

   Development consultant -application systems programming

3. Can you briefly describe the environment you work in? i.e. what kind
 of
company (software co, IT consulting co, other corp), size of your team
etc.

LEC is a fairly large company providing IT solutions, computing serv
ices and consulting over a
broad range of operating systems.
(OS/390, Win, UNIX, AS/400).

4. If you are able, can you give a rough overview of the types of proje
cts
you have worked on over the last 6 months and the technologies involved

I am a Java 'newbie', but have worked on a web content management sy

a third-party file management system.
Shall be working soon on web services in connection with web-based E
DI systems (follow-up, etc.)

5. How long have you been working with i) Java and ii) J2EE?

   Just the basic Java stuff

7. What certification (if any) do you possess or intend to get?

   None (yet)

8. What products - both commercial and open source - do you use often?
e.g.
Tomcat/WebLogic/Ant etc.

JBuilder 6, Forte CE, Tomcat, Ant, (Less so BEA Weblogic Portal & Se
rver products.)
-Incidentally, Hightower's book on XP tools covers a niche which Wro
x should have foreseen!

9. Can you describe how much community involvement you have? i.e. do yo
u
read/post to mailing lists often? What websites do you visit regularly?

I am a fairly 'active' reader! (IT-Inform articles, Heinz Kabutz' ne
wsletters, tips@j...)
-quality and relevance varies)

10. What do you intend to learn in the next 12 months?

Firstly, understanding mapping issues with GXS products, in connecti
on with which I shall be
using XML -and I suppose parsing, schema and so on.
(I shall also be starting on Unix, and intend to learn J2EE techniqu
es along the way.)

med venlig hilsen / best regards

Simon Drew
