you can do it provided the core configuration has the directove
AllowOverride FileInfo. This enables the AddType and Action directives to be
specified in .htaccess files. It also enables most of mod_rewrite's
functionality if that's available on the server.
I'm not sure, though - I doubt it would be enabled on a hosted server, since
there are some pretty powerful commands that this enables.
You need to speak to the provider's support staff. They might be prepared to
configure a special extension (.phtml or something) to map to php.
