Yeah, months ago I tried joining the "other" php lists, but it was during a
time they were having problems and I never got in to it. Never had the
desire to try again since I'm pretty ok right here.
I got a reply from Rasmus. He said it was to offload traffic from their
main webserver... so I'm assuming they have port forwarding set that any
traffic on port 8000 gets redirected to a different server. I asked him why
they just don't use a different hostname with port 80 and I am waiting on a
reply...
