I have two questions:

1) Is MTS necessary in order to use RDS with ActiveX DLLs?

2) Will RDS work between PCs on a LAN or does that scenario default to 
DCOM?

I ask these because getting RDS to work in the distributed way designed in
the book seems a lot harder than the book, and other Wrox books, suggest.
The answers to the above question swould narrow down the jam 
significantly.
