sql needs single quotes around the string... like this

objStoredProcRS.Open pSPName & " ('" & parmString & "')", adoConn,
adOpenKeyset, adLockReadOnly, adCmdStoredProc

or, (parentheses not needed)

objStoredProcRS.Open pSPName & "'" & parmString & "'", adoConn,
adOpenKeyset, adLockReadOnly, adCmdStoredProc
