Check into Merge Modules (specifically COMCAT.MSM) on msdn.microsoft.com, it
may apply to your problem.

Subject: [pro_vb] MSCOMCTL.OCX
Hi
Can anyone give me a pointer to this problem?
I have been working on an application in VB6 that uses the mscomctl.ocx.
This is a standard component, yes?
The first few releases of the software worked fine.
The development was and still is done on a WIn98 pc runing VB6 Enterprise
SP4.
The user pc's are a mixture of Win98 and WinNT4 machines.
Now however, there are Win2000 and Windows ME pc's appearing and so has
the problem.
The screens use a common image list to load standard pics to the toolbars.
What is happening is that the Win2000 and Win ME pc's are getting an error
message saying that the image list cannot be initialised and indicates
that the mscomctl.ocx is to blame.
When the install package was run the current mscomctl.ocx file present on
these systems was left intact and not replaced with the install package
'older' version.
Can anyone offer advice as to why this is happening.
Thanks
Nigel
