Hmm...if cost is an issue maybe a Win95 machine running
Personal Web server may do it. *shrug*

Kim,
I really don't know what all is involved in what you've described... I'll
still have to take it in front of management on Monday. Any change in gears
at this point will have to be a group decision.
I will take this new idea in front of them. I know we're stronger on web
services and XML than we are in C++, so it might very well be a good
alternative. The client is not interested in purchashing more hardware at
this point, though, so we'll have to make it work with what we've got.
We'll see what they come up with. Part of the problem is we don't have
anybody who's dealt with programatic TCP communication before...

John,
Reading your description about what you are trying to accomplish, let me
suggest alternative solution to your project. Through the use of a well
placed web server (intranet or internet) and the use of web services, you
can probably accomplish what you want to do without all the low level coding
that you are suggesting.
Perhaps a few XML strings from your client to the server and back again
can accomplish what you need, and you can use the VB knowledge you already
have and code most of the portions in VB or ASP.
Please let me know what you think of this idea.
