We have had trouble with source safe and we are pretty careful.  Still,
on the whole it is good enough.  As long as you accept that Source Safe
is not perfect and watch it carefully, it does well.

I've used SourceSafe with no trouble, I think the bad reports come from
large shops that don't administer it well.
