Thanks to everyone for your asssitance on this one.  I can now stop the 
madness.

I had the wrong component selected -- never realized that there were two 
different TDBGrid components; Component One True DBGrid Pro 7.0, and 
Component One True DBGrid Pro 7.0 (OLEDB).

It's amazing how much clearer one can see when one's head is removed from 
one's rectum...
