pro_vb thread: MS Software Rules!

Message #1 by "Nils-Holger Naegele" <nilsholger@h...> on Fri, 20 Sep 2002 22:47:25 +0200
OK, I've had a couple beers now, and am ready to lay out my thoughts.

1. There is a market out there, waiting for someone to come along who offers
a quality product at a reasonable price. Reasonable, of course, depends on
the situation.

2. You and I have the skills/mindset to make something very exciting happen.

Now, having said that, we must be in the same physical location. Believe me,
there is nothing more than I would like to do than come to the south of
France and spend a couple weeks. And, depending on how things go, I may do
just that (thank you for the invite!). In fact, I would very much enjoy
living there.

However, at this point in my life, I cannot leave KC. I don't know if I told
you, but I'm in Chapter 13 now (personal bankruptcy). This happened because
I was flying high, from a monetary perspective, at Sprint. But I was
absolutely miserable there .... to the point of attempted suicide. Finally,
they laid me off, I went to work for my brother, and I'm enjoying life now.
I've commmited to him to do everything I can to make his buisness more
succesfull, and we are making great gains.

One of the goals when I hired on with him was to sell the product I was
developing as a commercial product. I need help to do this. You are more
than the perfect fit. We can both multitask, helping with each others tasks,
while at the same time learning the valuable skills we each have from each
other.

I sent your info to him, and I think there is a good chance that you will
get an offer. I'm not sure about the car, but we can work that out.

I guess the bottom line is that we have to get started as soon as possible.
You have leads and products, I have leads and products. We both know people
who can help us out, or we can go it alone together (at least initially).

From your cover letter, I gather that you are willing to relocate here.

I think our first step should be to get you over here to discuss the
unlimited possibilities in front of us face to face. Or I could come there,
but for the reasons mentioned earlier, I probably wouldn't be able to make
it out there until at least mid to late November.

Also, you can tour the company, see what we do, see how we can improve it,
and start laying plans for the other software distribution/enhancement plans
you have mentioned.

And, you could see KC and determine if it's a place where you could live
comfortably until we make enough money to have homes/ships/cars located
across the globe.

As far as start up money goes, we wouldn't need much if you stayed here. We
can get you an office at the shop, or you could stay here and write
code/sell software on the deck overlooking the lake.

I try to attack things one at a time. To me, the most important thing is to
meet in person. What can I do to help get you over here? I don't have much
money, and I don't know what a round trip ticket would cost. I can tell you
that if you agreed to come over for a visit, I would find a way to pay for
1/2 of the journey.

I don't think I answered half of your questions, but I did have an idea -
All this time I've been trying to send you the binaries - I can just send
you the source and let you compile it. I'm not proud of most of the code, as
at first, I didn't have a clue about what I was doing and had to get
something up and running. So, most of the code is undocumented, non
standardized, and just sloppy in general. That is not my normal mode of
operation. But after 8 years as a manager at Sprint (never wrote a single
line of code), my code writing discipline skills faded. They are coming back
now. So, please try to understand the code you see is not the code that I
normally write. It's pretty much all "on the fly" ****.

Look forward to your reply -

Matt
