Well Monty this is just from my experience, i know people might have
differing opinions but in terms of performance oracle runs circles round sql
server.

i fail to see the connection between dll-hell and oracle.You have probably
been using oracle in simple scenarios where you insert a record , edit it
etc.and not in circumstances where you have to perform batch operations of
gazzillion records at one go. PLSQL stored procedures are tremendously fast
in such scenarios. And not to mention advanced features like Real
application clusters that are missing in SQL server.
If you have a budget constraint go for SQL server or else Oracle Rulez.
