Thanks, Ian. I'll give this a try.

Have a program 'prog.exe' all this does is get a registry entry and fire
off the program it finds, say 'prog1000.exe'and dies.
'prog1000.exe' checks for a new version of itself (via FTP).
If there is one, it downloads it - prog1001.exe - it updates the registry,
fires off prog1001 then dies. If there isn't an update, it just carries on
as normal.
Our setup is slightly more complicated than that as we have about 10
programs, a control and validation database and a pair of 'Friar Tuck and
Robin Hood' style control programs. (If you don't know what they are, try

Subject: [pro_vb] Downloading new executable from running program
I have a VB6 application that automatically downloads data files via
FTP. Is there a way to have this program download a new executable of
itself and then when it is run again the new executable takes affect.
Thanks for your help.
Paul
