I perfer ViewSonic, but there are many good brands.
I keep my monitor at 1600X1200. I find that gives me lots of space to view
all the windows I have open. I do have 20/19 eyesight though.
If you are going to go with a high resolution, you should keep some things
in mind.
1) What appears to be lots of work space for you may make things too large
for you users, so take advantage of the VB form layout window and/or
switch to 1024X768 when testing.
2) You want to have a (physically) large monitor. There are 17" monitors
out there that will do 16X12, but the screen is small and can cause
squinting. I use 19" monitors, but 21" would be better. (Last time I
checked there was a big difference between the prices of 19" & 21".)
3) Don't skimp on your monitor. You will typically upgrade your computer
many times while keeping the same monitor (if you get a good one).
4) Make sure the monitor (and video card) can do a fast refresh rate at
the high res. Often eye strain is from the flicker that occurs on
interlaced and/or slow refreshing monitors.
I hope all this was helpful.
