I am new to Linux and systems administration so this problem may seem
trivial to some.
I have a Linux box running 7.2 on a network. The DNS server is handled by
a Windows 2000 box. I have the IP address and the server name entered in
the DNS table. I also have the Linux box listed as a Domain Computer in
Active directory services. The Samba share shows up in the workgroup
computers under Windows, but when I click on it it says the computer can
not be found. In the properties box for the Linux machineunder active
directory users, there is a grayed out area for the DNS name. I am an
administartor on all machined. It will not allow me to add the DNS name
for the Samba server, and it seems to me that this is what is causing my
problem.
There must be some way to get the DNS name in the properties box, because
some of our other computers have it filled in, even though it is grayed
out there also.
We use ssh to conect to the Linux box and sftp for file transfer. Telnet
and ftp are disabled.
Thanks,
Mike McGinn
