security_asp thread: Avoid Login Screen

Message #1 by "lists" <lists@i...> on Fri, 15 Dec 2000 10:03:45 -0500
Banumathi,

Essentially, there's a bug in Office 2000. When a user visits a website,
and clicks on an Office 2000 document - and they have Office 2000 on their
own machine - the password box pops up. You can resolve this by installing
a patch from Microsoft...however everyone one of your users would have to
do this in order not to see the box.

Here's the Microsoft KB on the issue:

Hi,
I have an Intranet site which runs in Basic authentication. So , when the
user enters the site, he is prompted for uid/pwd. There are some documents
posted in the server which can be viewed. But when they are clicked for
viewing, NT Login screen appears again. This happens for only word
documents and excel and I have full permission to execute those
executables and also full control over the documents.

Any idea how to avoid this login screen again appearing ?

Thank you.
