A SID is a Security ID. It is a long unique alphanumeric number that is
assigned to each object in NT. This would be things like users, groups,
printers, etc... Then Win2K and/or Exchange match the SID up to a name.
Sometimes when you delete the name from the system, the SID is not
removed. When Win2K can't match a SID up to a name, it displays the
SID.

There is a command to force Win2K to attempt and reconcile the SID's and
hopefully remove any that it can not resolve. I don't have the command
or syntax in front of me right now, let me know if you would like me to
find it.

You should be 100% save in deleting the SID from the ACL without any
problems at all.

Typically this is the SID of an object that has been deleted. Perhaps
it was a user or a group that you deleted.

Help!! Strange user is listed as having full permissions on one my
WIN2k
servers folders?

Hi:

I just found a strange user being listed as having full permissions on
one
my WIN2k servers folders (inet pub). This user is not in my user or
user
group list and is indicated by an icon of a man's head with a question
mark. Then there is a long string of both numbers and letters. Does
anyone
know what this can possibly be??

Thanks,

Stefan
