I also had the same problem happening under Windows 2000. I couldn't 
remember the server password, so used the old "remove the MD5 hash and use 
nothing as a password" trick. This caused the "immediate exit" problem.

The easiest thing to do was reinstall (I said easiest, not nicest!!)
