beginning_php thread: IE 5.00 Browser Timeout

Message #1 by "Eric Nelson" <help@a...> on Sun, 2 Dec 2001 23:11:34
When running the program that sends out my subscription newsletter, my

browser gives a "Cannot Find Server or DNS Error" about 6 minutes into

execution (there are a couple of thousand subscribers). The program sends

the mail OK but never displays the "success" html page since the browser

times out. I am already using

set_time_limit(0);

which appears to allow the long running program but does not change my

browser timeout.

How can I keep the browser from timing out?

Thanks

make your sending page split the list into chunks

a to e

f to j

etc....

off a drop down box and send a section @ a time....

worx for me coz we had the same problem.

I've read somewhere that while PHP can send email, it isn't the best

way to go for sending bulk emailings. How many count as bulk? What can

PHP handle? What are the alternatives?

I'm working on a system that's going to have between 3000 and 6000

users and will be required to email them all occassionally.
