beginning_vb thread: Best VB Beginners Book???

Message #1 by sr2000@s... on 9 Jun 2000 13:40:26 -0700
Hello to all..

I am a novice with VB.. This is my second course in programming. The first one was about Pascal.

It's supposed that with that course I learned the basics of programming...

Unfortunatelly, the teacher of the course is not the best one... and I've found that if I don't have a good VB Beginners book next
to me, this course will be hard... Unfortunatelly, I have found this list yesterday and today I've received the first digest... and,
the worst of all, I have the firt test the next week, so I have to study how to programm in VB with some guides that the teacher has
given me....

All this background just to let u know that I need your advise... I need to buy the best book for beginners in VB... so, please,
share with me your experience about BV books and ADVISE ME WHAT TITLE TO BUY... Maybe for the most of u to spend $30 or $40 buying
any book is not a big effort... it's a big effort to me... So, I wouldn't like to waste my money buying books that don't have good
code examples nor books that don't explain everything...

I'm urged with this... I have read the comments for VB books in Amazon and some people say that x book is the best.. and others say
that it's the worst they have bought.... So, I don't know in which comment I can trust... Your advise will be of help for me. Thanks
a lot.

If you know about a useful VB tutorial on the web, is also welcome.

Thanks for your time and help.

I've been a VB programmer for about 4 years and recently started ASP

and just like you I had to learn most of these stuff on my own, to my

experience the best VB Book for beginner to novice is WROX'S BEGINNING

VISUAL BASIC 6 By Peter Wright ISBN 1-861001-05-03 believe me YOU CAN'T

GO WRONG BUYING THAT BOOK it's absolutely the best I own about $500

worth of WROX'S BOOKS and anytime I need anything I look for them first

because on any programming topic they have something to surpass just

about any other book. Once again if you really want a very good

Beginner

to Novice VB book you'd be hurting yourself if you don't go with that

book, because it covers just about everything a beginner and novice VB

programmer needs to know and it gives a very good taste of the advance

topics.

I have used PEter Wright's Beginning Visual Basic 6 from WROX Press. It is

an excellent book although it was a little weak on the Package and

Deployment Wizard. Got me to complete a project with NO other training.
