coldfusion thread: Can coldfusion and Java coexist?

Message #1 by "Ruchi Sinha" <s_ruchi@y...> on Wed, 19 Jun 2002 22:52:07
Hi,
I do not know Java. We are planning to migrate our web applications to
Java. Currently our applications are in ColdFusion, we want to migrate in
phases and i was wondering whether for the first phase we could have some
pages in java and some pages in coldfusion with in an application? Our
website is secured and we use sessions. Can Java and Cold Fusion use the
same sessions?
What are the things i will need to do in making this work.

Thanks,
Ruchi

Ruchi,

The newest version of CF (called CFMX) is actually built on a Java platform
with a Java code base. There are several deployment options for several
different Java application servers (as well as one that comes with it). CF
coders everywhere are finding ways to plug it into every OS and JVM
immaginable (ha). I have a friend who even ported it to OS X (although I
have yet to understand why<g>). All CF templates now compile into Java
classes (byte code). You can share sessions with your Java servlets, and
even invoke Java custom tags from within your CF template. There is a good
chance your "migration" could be nothing more than separating out the
components you want to be pure Java (business logic etc) and calling it
directly from within the CF template. Check out information on CFMX at
desdev (on macromedia.com).
