Hi Everyone! I'm a newbie to SQL 7.0 and need to ask
a question about LINKED SERVERS.
I have added a Lotus Notes database (Domino Server) as a Linked Server
in SQL Server 7.0 using the following method:
1. Using the Notes SQL 2.06 ODBC Driver, I created a System DSN
on the same machine as SQL (both Domino and SQL are on the same box)
2. In SQL 7.0 Enterprise Manager, I added a linked server and used the
Microsoft OLEDB Provider for ODBC, and when configuring that, I used
the name of the System DSN I created in Step 1.
I can successfully add the linked server and see the tables (Notes
Forms) from my data source but when I run a simple SQL statement
against it, I get the following error message:
I.E. SELECT ResourceName FROM NOTES...Resource
Server: Msg 207, Level 16, State 3, Line 1
Invalid column name 'ResourceName'.
The field I am trying to retrieve IS the exact same name given to
the field in my Notes form. I don't know why it doesn't work....
any ideas?? When I was on the MS site, I saw a presentation
that used an OPENQUERY SQL Statement. I tried that and it
worked? Here is the statement I used:
SELECT * FROM OPENQUERY(NOTES, 'SELECT ResourceName, SupplierContact FROM
Resource ORDER BY ResourceName')
As I said, the above SQL statement worked but what is an OPENQUERY
The problem is that I need to query BOTH a SQL table AND my linked server
to get all of the records from both and using the OPENQUERY method, I don't
think I can do that. I am fairly new to SQL so any help would be much
