Default Missing Individual aspx Files

Hello,

My Visual Studio 2005 creates a sln and does not have the individual files in the web site folder. Thus I am unable to share pages with other team members. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Hi there,

I am not sure what you are asking; can you elaborate? Are you referring to a specific chapter of the book? What do you mean with "share pages"?

Thanks for responding, when I look at the "solution explorer" in vs2005 I can see the individual pages (i.e. Default.aspx, MasterPage.master, etc...). However, after I save and close the web site all I have in the web site folder is a .sln file. None of the individual pages show up with that .sln.

VS saves the actual ASPX files at a different location than the .sln file. If you create a new web site, it allows you to specify the target location. If you open an existing site, well, you should already know the location.

Are you using a specific application from the book? How did you install / open it?

There was nothing special about the install, although I'm on the Vista OS. I downloaded/installed the updates and have created web sites with vs2005 before, this was a fresh install.

I do know the location of the web site, have opened the folder and was surprised that only a .sln was in there. I was expecting to see Default.aspx, etc... Do I need to check a box somewhere in order for vs2005 to stop making my site just a sln?

I'm creating a new site, not from an existing file.

I was referring to installing one of the applications discussed in the book ASP.NET 2.0 Instant Results, since you are posting in its forum....

What kind of web site are you creating? VS comes with different templates accessible through File | New Web Site and File | New Project. Both operate in different ways.

Can you describe your steps? And the folders you are looking in? Normally you would get a Default.aspx file. However, like I said earlier, VS stores the .sln at a different location than the actual web site.

Imar,

I really appreciate your help, I'm on Chapter 2 of your Instant Results book. Wow, I'm retarded, I've been adding new items to the solution, not the folder. Your comment about different locations for the .sln and actual site made me re-think my steps. Sorry for the total noob post. You rock dude! Thanks for your help!!
