Default Coding from the div tag shows up on the rendered HTML page

In Chapter 2, Item 19: "Verify that your code matches the following."

I'm using Visual Studio 2010 Professional to develop the websites.

I have verified that the code is correct, but the text <div class="header"> renders on the HTML page when displayed. This is also true of <div class="sidebar"> and <div class="contents">.

Is anyone else having this problem?

Thanks.

I don't have a copy of the book, but unless you have a runat="server" attribute on particular tags, they pretty much won't be processed and will simply be rendered to the outgoing HTTP response exactly as you have them typed.

Default Lesson 2 Answer

Please create a new page by selecting the HTML Page template from the Add New Item dialog box named Cheese.htm and replace all of the code with the following code.

Code:
<!DOCTYPE html PUBLIC "-//W3C//DTD XHTML 1.0 Transitional//EN" "http://www.w3.org/TR/xhtml1/DTD/xhtml1-transitional.dtd">
<html xmlns="http://www.w3.org/1999/xhtml">
<head>
    <title>Cheese Sandwich</title>
</head>
<body>
    <div class="header">
        <img src="SuperEasyRecipesLogo.gif" alt="Super Easy Recipes" />
    </div>
    <div class="sidebar">
