View - Manage Styles will not show
On page 86 as nearly as I can tell I am following the instructions, but I cannot get the Manage Styles dialog box to show. It is a visible item on the View menu but will not display. Is there something basic that I am missing?
Thanks.

Hi Thomas,
Maybe the Manage Styles window is there, but hiding behind another window? And what document do you have open in the Document Editor when you try this? It works fine for me with Default.aspx open.
If it keeps failing, try resetting your Window layout through Window | Reset Window Layout.
Hope this helps,
Imar

Imar,
Thanks for the quick reply.
I tried what you suggested it and did not work, at least not as the book indicated.
After I tried the "Window | Reset Window Layout" I went back to the View menu and starting turning things on. When I got to "View - Other Windows - Document Outline" the "CSS Properties" pane appeared directly below the "Document Outline" in a dockable view on the right side. I was then able to turn on the "Apply Styles" and "Manage Styles" panes, also dockable views on the right side. I am now in tab heaven on the right side of my screen!
Perhaps this behavior is influenced by two things. First, I am useing "Visual Studio 2008 Professional" and second I built the book example project (to this stage, i.e., top of page 86) as a "Web Application Project" simply because it was an option that was available to me. I am not sure that those things would influence the behavior of the "Manage Styles" window's appearance or location, but I thought I'd mention them.
I am back up at full steam (at least for now )
BTW, I am really enjoying your book. I learned MFC about 10 years ago from a similarly well written Wrox book, which really paid dividends for me.

For my previous post, I tried it out in VS 2008 Professional as well. It shouldn't make a difference, as the Manage Styles option is available in VWD Express and in VWD Pro.
Also, a Web Site Project versus a Web Application Project shouldn't make a difference either. It should be an IDE feature and not be releated to the type of project.
Anyway, glad it's working.
With regards to the WAP: most of the book's code should work without a problem, but some of it won't. For example, the Profile features only work out of the box with Web Site Projects. Just something you should be aware off to avoid confusion when things don't seem to work....
Glad you like the book so much. Have fun!
Imar
