Default Modernizr and polyfills

Hello Imar,

on page 83, you explain how to add Modernizr to the site and say that "Modernizr fixes the HTML5 compatibility issues for older browsers".

Looking for further documentation, I found on Wikipedia that
"Modernizr does not add missing functionality to browsers. However, the HTML5Shiv JavaScript library adds basic support for HTML5 elements in Internet Explorer prior to version 9, and this and other such polyfills are listed on the Modernizr Wiki".

As the list of HTML5 Cross Browser Polyfills is frightening long, can you give us some hints on what to do to improve the HTML5 cross browser compatibility ?

Thank you

Antonius

Use Modernizr;-)

There really isn't a way to add many of the missing features to an old browser. If the browser doesn't support a location API, there's no way to emulate that using JavaScript. Modernizr does a great job but it can't do magic.

What's the reason you care about IE prior to version 9?
