Default You are right.

Sorry I just lost my cool. I have had a very trying week, with my mother in the hospital and all. I manned up and admited I was wrong and that I way over-reacted. What I did was out of line. Sorry.
While I am here, I was wondering if I could ask you question. The Dropdown list on page 557. Would it not be simpler to hook that up via property pages instead of using the mark up page. It seems like to me that you spend a great deal of time teaching people to do things using the mark up page. Would it not be easier to use property pages instead of having to type XML in the mark up section of the webform? I am used to doing it that way instead of constantly taking out templates and removing templates adding attributes to asp:webform objects like buttons, dropdown lists, label, text boxes ect, ect. Would it not be easier to learn and faster to set a great deal of that stuff in the property pages?

If there's some part of this discussion you'd like me to delete, I'm happy to. Glad things worked out all right. Imar's got a way of making things better.

Default You can delete anything you want.

You can delete anything you want. I don't care about it anymore. I just like to ask Imar what can be done with the mail stuff in his book. I don't have a mail server on my machine and I don't know how any of that portions can be done.

That's is exactly what step 4 lets you do. It says this:
Quote:
Next, hook up the DropDownList to a new EntityDataSource control. You should bind it to

the
Genres entity set and use Id and Name as the DataValueField and DataTextField properties, respectively. If you don’t see the Name and Id properties listed in the drop-down lists for DataValueField and DataTextField , remember you can click the Refresh Schema link. Refer to the previous chapter if you’re not sure how to hook up the control to an EntityDataSource anymore. When you’re done, the code for the two controls looks like this:

This refers to setting things up using the available smart panels and wizards. The XML code at the end of step four is just there to confirm you set things up correctly.

This is explained in detail in Chapter 9, page 318 specifically. If you can't, or don't want to use the SMTP server from your ISP, you can use a local drop folder and configure web.config accordingly.

Can you please start a new thread for new topics (such as this question about e-mail)? Makes things easier for everyone to manage.

So you did write that "very, very bad review on Amazon.com". Would you mind updating it and correcting at least two parts:

Quote:
On top of that chapter 15 in advanced topics will not run properly as I used the author's source code directly and it still threw an Javascript error
(since you figured out what you did wrong)

Quote:
support is virtually non-existent from the author
(this couldn't be further from the truth).

I am not asking you to change the rate (although I wouldn't mind if you did), just to correct things that are not true at all.

Default I would like to retract it.

I would definitely like to retract the review I did at Amazon.com. I was just out of sorts and having a really bad day and a bad week. I will see what I can do. If they will let me edit my review I will print a retraction on what I said.

I am working on a project of my own and was using the jquery solution for the alternating row background color on a gridview, just as in your exercise. I am getting the same error as the angry Irishman, but have not solved the problem. The jquery file is in the proper place in the head. What other areas should I look at?

Can you post the code for the page that has the jQuery reference and the page that has the jQuery code as well as the final HTML in the browser?

Cheers,

Imar
