Can you be a bit more specific? For example, post your connection string and explain where you get this error exactly?

Thanks,

Imar

i searched for the error and find these steps for repairing
1) Make sure your server name is correct, e.g., no typo on the name.
2) Make sure your instance name is correct and there is actually such an instance on your target machine. [Update: Some application converts \\ to \. If you are not sure about your application, please try both Server\Instance and Server\\Instance in your connection string]
3) Make sure the server machine is reachable, e.g, DNS can be resolve correctly, you are able to ping the server (not always true).
4) Make sure SQL Browser service is running on the server.
5) If firewall is enabled on the server, you need to put sqlbrowser.exe and/or UDP port 1434 into exception.

but i have problem with step 5 and 4 i cannot start sql server browser i think i have problem with opening port 1434, can you tell me your notes and tell me how to open this port, if it's my problem?

It looks like you have copied your web app from Visual Studio to IIS, and that IIS isn't able to connect to the database.

When you develop in Visual Studio using SQL Server Express, you work with a special version of a SQL Server database called a "user instance". The great thing about a user instance is that you can use it during development without having to worry about permissions, connection strings and so on. But when you move your app and the database to an IIS environment, you do have to set up permissions and connection strings.

Your user instance is not accessible to IIS. You need to attach your database to an instance of SQL Server that is accessible to IIS, and then you need to update your connection string to access that database. The best place to start is Appendix B of the book, which covers this topic in detail.

Or maybe the server this site is running on does not have a locally installed SQL Express edition called .\SqlExpress?

This error message usually occurs when You are not authenticated in sql server. But You should check mistyping in DataDirector y . It have additional space between 'DataDirector' and 'y'. Check it , I hope it help if you have chance.

Default again error 26 in chapter 16

SQLExpress database file auto-creation error:

The connection string specifies a local Sql Server Express instance using a database location within the application's App_Data directory. The provider attempted to automatically create the application services database because the provider determined that the database does not exist. The following configuration requirements are necessary to successfully check for existence of the application services database and automatically create the application services database:

If the application is running on either Windows 7 or Windows Server 2008R2, special configuration steps are necessary to enable automatic creation of the provider database. Additional information is available at: http://go.microsoft.com/fwlink/?LinkId=160102. If the application's App_Data directory does not already exist, the web server account must have read and write access to the application's directory. This is necessary because the web server account will automatically create the App_Data directory if it does not already exist.
If the application's App_Data directory already exists, the web server account only requires read and write access to the application's App_Data directory. This is necessary because the web server account will attempt to verify that the Sql Server Express database already exists within the application's App_Data directory. Revoking read access on the App_Data directory from the web server account will prevent the provider from correctly determining if the Sql Server Express database already exists. This will cause an error when the provider attempts to create a duplicate of an already existing database. Write access is required because the web server account's credentials are used when creating the new database.
Sql Server Express must be installed on the machine.
The process identity for the web server account must have a local user profile. See the readme document for details on how to create a local user profile for both machine and domain accounts.
i changed the iis asp.net v4.0 to network services but cannot solve my problem here is my configuration file:
Code:
  <connectionStrings>
    <add name="PlanetWroxConnectionString1" connectionString="Data Source=.;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\PlanetWrox.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True" providerName="System.Data.SqlClient" />
    <add name="PlanetWroxEntities" connectionString="metadata=res://*/App_Code.PlanetWrox.csdl|res://*/App_Code.PlanetWrox.ssdl|res://*/App_Code.PlanetWrox.msl;provider=System.Data.SqlClient;provider connection string="Data Source=.;AttachDbFilename=|DataDirectory|\PlanetWrox.mdf;Integrated Security=True;User Instance=True;MultipleActiveResultSets=True"" providerName="System.Data.EntityClient" />
  </connectionStrings>
  <system.web>
    <authentication mode="Forms" />
    <pages theme="Monochrome">
      <controls>
        <add tagPrefix="Wrox" tagName="Banner" src="~/Controls/Banner.ascx" />
      </controls>
    </pages>
that i modified as the try it out exercise
