There is no core profile module in drupal 7.
His succesor the profile2 module doesn't give the options needed for the exercise.

I also ran into this snafu. This text is full of examples that don't match D7.
But if you go to http://drupal.org/note/874026 you will get instructions on how to enable the Profile module in D7. Being a beginner in Drupal I am not sure that the instructions will work on my Windows PC.
