I am not able to use the files in Chapters 6 and 7. I get a message stating that the security on my computer will not let me open them. I am using Vista. I turned off all security on my computer and still cannot open the files. It keeps referring to a path C:\\books/infopath/samples/chapter?
I created directories with those parameters and have still not been able to open the exercise files. I was told Wrox does not support code. Even though this is the corresponding code to the book.
I am an instructor and was not able to fully study this because of those problems. Does anyone know how I can get these files to open and connect to their data source. I spent hours trying to figure this out and am out of ideas.
What is it that you are opening the files with in Vista? WinZip or the built in file decompressor in Vista? The book was written before Vista but I can't imagine that's really the problem.
What I'm confused by is, what exactly is referring you to "C:\\books/infopath/samples/chapter"?
When I unzip these files, the paths look like this:
..\557130\ch5
..\557130\ch6
so depending on where you unzip them you should see:
C:\557130\ch5\Lookups.xsn
C:\557130\ch5\manifest.xsf
C:\557130\ch5\myschema.xsd
C:\557130\ch5\Products XML.xsd
C:\557130\ch5\Products.xml
C:\557130\ch5\Products.xsd
C:\557130\ch5\Products1.xsd
C:\557130\ch5\Products2.xsd
C:\557130\ch5\readme.txt
C:\557130\ch5\sampledata.xml
C:\557130\ch5\template.xml
C:\557130\ch5\upgrade.xsl
C:\557130\ch5\view1.xsl
Thanks for answering so promptly. The files are decompressed using the Vista utility. They do unzip to the directories you have mentioned. When I open a files the path I mentioned is part of the error message.
Level 1 and 2 support said they do not support code.
This is one of the error messages:

This is when I try to view the form in Chapter 6. That is where I saw the path and figured maybe the files should be there.
Based on the file named in your error message, your question is actually about the Beginning InfoPath 2003 book so I've moved the question here to that book's forum instead of it's original location in the Professional InfoPath forum. I'll take another look when I've had a chance to look at the Beginning book's code.

Okay, I read the postings that all the frustrated people said regarding chapters 6 & 7 files. I was getting the same error message that everyone else got. I did the steps that were suggested in the Thread posted on 06-16-05 by Ken@adler.net "Sample Code is frustratingly broken" .. it was to create the filepath and move the files to them. Still could not get the files opened properly.
Now, how may of you went straight to the file and opened the file from your explorer view? I know I did.
Once I read and followed the actual steps in the book.....the file opened up but after fixing the issue of needing to republishing the file, it worked fine. I did find that it did NOT matter where the file was located on my computer.
Hope this helps those who try this book, maybe again for the first time.
Sincerely,
Kathy
