Default Expected Expression before')' token page 212 line

I have checked and rechecked removed and replaced the - in the line insch(*scan_ptr-); From page 212 terminal exercises and I still get the error on that line every time. If I remove the dash It doesn't error but it doesn't display the Witch-one or Witch-two names and obviously wont compile if I leave it in. So, has anyone figured this one out?
Marty
