Default Syntax Will Not Work in codeEditor

Hello -

I'm very frustrated with this book thus far, I do not feel that it explains enough about how the code should be entered into codeEditor. As a result, I keep getting irritating syntax errors.

What i'm really hung up on are the exercises from chapter 4 - i'm trying really hard to get my IF statements to run and they WILL NOT run due to syntax errors. I've finally just gone to the appendix for the answers and have typed them into codeEditor EXACTLY as they appear in the book but still continue to get syntax errors.

I'm thinking that I wasted my money on this book. Does anyone have any tips for avoiding syntax errors when typing multiple lines of IF statements??????

Thanks.
