Default Problems with DocumentSource tag property

I'm trying to put XML into a Web Part, but every time I try to test the web part, I get the "xxxx.xml does not exist" error. I've copied the source to the SP 2010 server, and is still a nogo. Is this a problem with file access? Some posts I've seen indicate a change needs to be made to the web.config for access rights - rather not do that unless I have to. Thanks!
