Thumbs down Chapter 3: Customizing a Site Page

Hi there. I'm trying to follow thought the Try It Out - Custominzing a Site Page (with SharePoint Designer) but after a couple of hours, I'm still helpless. Supposedly, I'd create a new we part page, rename to Employee.aspx, check out, edit, go into code view, add a <div> tag and inside it, add an XML control.
When all that is done, I'm supposed to end with this:
Code:
…
<WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart frametype=”none” runat=”server” partorder=”1”
     __WebPartId=”{B33365D3-49F7-43F6-B833-B06139DB7AD4}”
     id=”g_b33365d3_49f7_43f6_b833_b06139db7ad4”>
     <content>
          <div>
                <asp:Xml runat=”server” id=”xmlEmployee”></asp:Xml>
           </div>
     </content>
</WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart>
…
Unfortunately, I can't seem to be able to get it. I did create the web part page and did everything as I was supposed to but nowhere in my code do I see the "WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart ....".
I tried to recreate under both a team site and a wiki site and failed in both cases.
Anyone knows what I'm doing wrong?
Thanks in advance!

Default Slight difference?

My version of the same...

Code:
<asp:Content ContentPlaceHolderId="PlaceHolderMain" runat="server">
		<table cellpadding="4" cellspacing="0" border="0" width="100%">
				<tr>
					<td id="_invisibleIfEmpty" name="_invisibleIfEmpty" valign="top" width="100%">
					<WebPartPages:WebPartZone runat="server" Title="loc:FullPage" ID="FullPage" FrameType="TitleBarOnly"><ZoneTemplate>
					<WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart runat="server" AllowEdit="True" AllowConnect="True" ConnectionID="00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" Title="" IsIncluded="True" Dir="Default" IsVisible="True" AllowMinimize="True" ExportControlledProperties="True" ID="g_b8fe96cf_6d42_4086_92a9_69817cd92a7a" PartImageSmall="" FrameType="None" FrameState="Normal" ExportMode="All" AllowHide="True" SuppressWebPartChrome="False" DetailLink="" ChromeType="None" HelpLink="" MissingAssembly="Cannot import this Web Part." AllowRemove="True" HelpMode="Modeless" Directive="&lt;%@ Register TagPrefix=&quot;SharePoint&quot; Namespace=&quot;Microsoft.Sharepoint.WebControls&quot; Assembly=&quot;Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c&quot; %&gt;" AllowZoneChange="True" PartOrder="1" Description="" PartImageLarge="" IsIncludedFilter="" __MarkupType="vsattributemarkup" __WebPartId="{B8FE96CF-6D42-4086-92A9-69817CD92A7A}" WebPart="true" Height="" Width=""><Content>

						<div>
							<asp:Xml runat="server" id="xmlEmployee" DocumentSource="file:///C:/source/BeginningSharepoint2010Development/Downloaded/Chapt3/Employee.xml" TransformSource="file:///C:/source/BeginningSharepoint2010Development/Downloaded/Chapt3/Employee.xslt"></asp:Xml>
						</div>
						</Content>
</WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart>

</ZoneTemplate></WebPartPages:WebPartZone> </td>
				</tr>
				<script type="text/javascript" language="javascript">if(typeof(MSOLayout_MakeInvisibleIfEmpty) == "function") {MSOLayout_MakeInvisibleIfEmpty();}</script>
		</table>
</asp:Content>
I believe I have quite a bit more content. The page worked fine for me. Please note that I did download the XML and XSL to my machine.

Unhappy no luck

hi there richv and thanks for taking the time to answer. I tried to recreate, once more, and once more I failed.

Since yours is working can you please answer me a couple of questions:
1. what site collection are you working with? Is it a Wiki site collection?
2. where did you get the "WikiContentWebpart" bit? I can't seem to find it anywhere!!!

It's funny cause I'm doing precisely what the book says I should be doing but the damn thing refuses to appear. This part I mean:
Code:
<WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart runat="server" AllowEdit="True" AllowConnect="True" ConnectionID="00000000-0000-0000-0000-000000000000" Title="" IsIncluded="True" Dir="Default" IsVisible="True" AllowMinimize="True" ExportControlledProperties="True" ID="g_b8fe96cf_6d42_4086_92a9_69817cd92a7a" PartImageSmall="" FrameType="None" FrameState="Normal" ExportMode="All" AllowHide="True" SuppressWebPartChrome="False" DetailLink="" ChromeType="None" HelpLink="" MissingAssembly="Cannot import this Web Part." AllowRemove="True" HelpMode="Modeless" Directive="&lt;%@ Register TagPrefix=&quot;SharePoint&quot; Namespace=&quot;Microsoft.Sharepoint.WebControls&quot; Assembly=&quot;Microsoft.SharePoint, Version=14.0.0.0, Culture=neutral, PublicKeyToken=71e9bce111e9429c&quot; %&gt;" AllowZoneChange="True" PartOrder="1" Description="" PartImageLarge="" IsIncludedFilter="" __MarkupType="vsattributemarkup" __WebPartId="{B8FE96CF-6D42-4086-92A9-69817CD92A7A}" WebPart="true" Height="" Width=""><Content>...
If you could please help me out I'd be grateful.
Thanks again.
Matt.

PS: I tried creating the Site Page through the Site Settings of a Wiki Site Collection (instead of doing it through Designer as the book says, and although I did get the "WebPartPages:WebPartZone" part, I still can't get the "WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart " part. Any clues there?

If you take a quick gander at my next post, you will see that I had to initialize my site because of a master page issue. But, that is another story. I believe that you just need to double click on the section of the page, on the particular web part to get it to create the WikiWebPart bit...

Open the page and go to Design mode. Type something (anything) in the screen, and then go back to Code mode. You'll see that a WikiContentWebPart tag has been placed in the code.

Don't ask me why it doesn't put one in there for you to begin with...

Thanks mate! You're spot on! No clue why this is the way to make the WikiContentWebPart appear but your trick actually did work. Thanks again!

Question Similar problem with XML source

I had the same problem and this thread almost got it working for me, THANKS for the tip, this was very annoying. However, after getting the WikiContentWebpart, when i open the page, i get a very useless "Web Part Error" message with no explanation. As anyone else experienced this? any thoughts on what i can do to investigate?
Thanks

yeah, i got the web part error message as well.

"The WikiContentWebpart Web Part appears to be causing a problem."

Did you ever find out what the problem was?

i think its codepage related.

Unhappy Web Part Error Blank

Hi

I experienced the exact same scenario. First there was no WebPartPages:WikiContentWebpart. Then, after typing junk in design mode it appeared.

After adding the XML control, I received an error. I suspect it has something to do with my SharePoint installation. I posted a question on the SharePoint forum here:

http://social.technet.microsoft.com/...8-4d10a92c9b6c

When I add a button or text box instead of the XML control, the web part works. It is only caused when adding the XML control.

Hopefully someone can point me in the right direction, I've been spending too much time on this one exercise trying to get the solution to work..

Got this error too. Spent a bunch of time then gave up on it and moved on. I'm only up to chapter 3 and so far have run into two issues like this.
