Default Contradictory instructions

P88, steps 10 - 13, suggest that if you use Import file to import a master page, you will be able to see it in the Master view directory. This did not happen for me - instead it went to the page layout directory, where I eventually stumbled across it.

I spent hours searching online for the reason as I was concerned that I didn't have SPD set up correctly. I got a workaround on a forum (import a master page via the SP UI, and change the content type there) which turned out to be the same answer that the book gives on p122.

NCCadm, We apologize for your frustration. For other readers that may encounter the same thing, I've posted essentially what it says on Page 122.

All files imported into the master page gallery via SharePoint
Designer are assigned the page layout content type. Since page layouts and
master pages are filtered into different views in SharePoint Designer 2010 based
on their content type, this can make it difficult to find an imported master page.

Look for master pages in the Page Layouts directory if you can't find them after importing or copying and pasting into SharePoint Designer.

Sincerely,

Marcy Kellar
