uploading skins using file manager
I have just read Dotnetnuke Websites by Tracy Wittenkeller.
It was very good. I am a real novice and trying to learn.
I have 2 questions. They are:
1. I am trying to upload new skins as described on page 138. However, I don't get those options when I hit the skin icon. I only get help, online help and print. I am assuming that this is to do with restrictions placed on me by the host server. I was wondering whether I could bypass this problem an upload using the filemanager?
2. I have been trying to find a repository module whereby my visitors can upload their powerpoint presentations. I was hoping they could upload their powerpoint presentations on slideshare first and then just copy the embedding code onto my website? Is this going to be possible?
thanks lisa

To upload a skin you must do it via the skins functionality, or you could upload it via FTP, however, that is not recommended unless you are really sure of what you are doing.
If you do not have permissions to upload skins you are not running with a Host account to your site, I would recommend getting that account information as it will ALWAYS be able to upload skins.
As for individuals linking to documents that exist elsewhere, you might have a few options. You could have them use the repository module if you want the actual files stored on your site. Otherwise, if you want them to include embed tags in their postings you are most likely going to have to create something with the UDT module or another forms module, as most module security functions will strip out the embed tags for security purposes from general users.
