Default overloading the increment and decrement operators(pg 540)

Hi, I am wondering if someone could help me on the following code

len.feet += len.inches/len.inchesPerFoot;
len.inches %= len.inchesPerFoot;

I am not sure what the period (.) in these two codes mean. Any help will be much appreciated. Thx
