Hello,

I recently purchased this book and am enjoying it. I'm only on chapter 6 but I've learned a lot so far.

I am having a problem though getting the menu to work with roles following the sample code. IE is giving me a SQL Server 2005 error as soon as I set the securityTrimmingEnabled value to true for the XmlSiteMapProvider.

The error message is below:

An error has occurred while establishing a connection to the server. When connecting to SQL Server 2005, this failure may be caused by the fact that under the default settings SQL Server does not allow remote connections. (provider: SQL Network Interfaces, error: 26 - Error Locating Server/Instance Specified)


I'm quite sure that I've got the code written correctly (double & triple checked line by line). I'm 100% positive I don't have any code referencing any sql server. I do have SQL Express installed and SQL 2000 also but I'm hoping that doesn't make the menu code fail. I don't see why it would...

Hopefully, you've seen this problem before and I'm just missing something little. Thanks ahead of time and good job on the book!

First, thanks for buying the book! I'm glad you are finding it useful. :)

My first thought is that you stumbled across one of the (hopefully) few mistakes I made in the text, as is highlighted in the errata:

I had the section on securityTrimmingEnabled in Chapter 6 (look for the errata items from 9/27). Look over what I corrected and see if that works.

Honestly, I haven't seen that error before but see if the errata text helps fix your problem. If it doesn't, can you post the relevant code? I am sure we can figure it out.

I've received that error when for whatever reason, SQL Server wasn't running.
