Hello!
As Jamie and Cristian said in chapter 2:
Google Analytics is a free and robust web service that performs web analytics. It is located at
http://www.google.com/analytics/. The service is complex enough to merit its own book; feel free to check out Google Analytics (Mary E. Tyler and Jerri L. Ledford, Wiley, 2006). Figure 2-2 shows one of the many reports Google Analytics can deliver.
With that said, they do not go into any great depth about Google Analytics but you can find detialed instructions on how setup google analytics on both simple and complex websites at:
http://www.google.com/adwords/learni...ext/29523.html
You no doubt have seen that page but, as you said in your post, Google has told you where to put the necessary code and being that it is their tool, I am inclined to set it up as they suggest.
Hope that helps and that you enjoy the book!
-Doug
