Question Moving modified theme back to server

Page 242: Moving the Theme to the Server:
One point that is not clear:
a. The new theme.css file contains a combination of the old theme.css and mossExtensions.css code.
b. In the new themes directory, we will have the new theme.css file, but we also still have the original mossExtensions.css file.
c. So, does the theme.css get applied before or after the mossExtensions.css file? If it gets applied before the moss extensions, will not the old moss extensions CSS code override any changes we may have made to that code? In fact, this is the case, so the text does not address this issue or is unclear about how to update these CSS sheets.

Can you please clarify this section?

Thanks much;

Larry

Essentially the theme.css and mossExtensions.css get merged when the theme is applied into one css file that is used by the SharePoint site. So, yes the old mossExtensions.css will be appended to whatever is in theme.css. If you are going to modify the CSS that is being applied by mossExtensions.css you can edit that file and add your changes there. Another option is to add them to your theme.css file and remove the mossExtensions.css. I have done this before and it does not seem to cause any problems.

Default mossExtensions.css modifications

Thanks much;

I like the option of removing the moss.Extensions.css file, I had tried that and it worked fine.

I would note that when following the text's discussion to replace background colors and such throughout the theme.css file, you do replace color assignments in the mossExtensions.css portion of the merged theme.css file. Unless I am wrong about this, it would be prudent to note this in the book and suggest the solutions discussed in this thread.

Thanks again,

Larry
