Default Chapter 3: Getting Started "Hello" does not work!

Hi everyone,

I've been working and very eager to learn about real-time programming. I've read everything until now, I can not make the example work. I did make sure that my JID and password was correct, but the "status" returning 1, then 2, and stop right there. I've looked up the information, and I think that 1 means "connecting", 2 means "authenticating". It does not work!

Here is my own code following the book: http://xx3004.kodingen.com/XMPP/
Here is the code downloaded from website: http://xx3004.kodingen.com/XMPP_SRC/ch03/hello.html

Both of them does not work. Please help.

Pump. Please help.

Additional information: I could not find "strophe.flxhr.js" in the latest version of Strophe.

I would thank for any help. Could you please show me an example link that works, that is just fine.

Thanks again.

I think you can download the code described in the book from this address:
http://www.wrox.com/WileyCDA/WroxTit...-DOWNLOAD.html

In the code, there is a document called Scripts, there are all the scripts needed in the program included what you wanted.

Default Chapter 3 ... localhost server connection doesn't work

Hi All,

I have been reading through the book till Chapter 6 right now... The book is really excited me a lot.
Now, I am back at Chapter 3 try to use my localhost xmpp BOSH connection instead of the one that the book recommended.
I have been stuck for about 5 days now and yet still can't get that chapter 3 working using my localhost BOSH connection....

For detail information:
My XMPP server connection : ejabberd-2.1.10
BOSH connection is setup at http://localhost:5280/xmpp-httpbind
crossdomain is also setup successfully at http://localhost:5280/crossdomain.xml

I have a valid XMPP account that I registered at register.jabber.org

When I am using the http://bosh.metajack.im:5280/xmpp-httpbind, everything works perfect... But, when I change the BOSH connection manager to my localhost: http://localhost:5280/xmpp-httpbind, the chapter 3 code doesn't work...

Is there someone there that can help me with the problem I have here??? I want to run the code in my localserver but... been frustrated because it doesn't work the way it should be...

Many Thanks,
-Joe

Joegun,

The problem you are running into is that ejabberd's BOSH endpoint can only be used to connect to ejabberd's XMPP service. You can't use ejabberd's BOSH to connect to jabber.org.

The service I run at bosh.metajack.im is using Punjab, which is a standalone BOSH connection manager, and it can be used to connect to any publicly accessible XMPP server.

To read more about the differences, see
http://metajack.im/2008/09/08/which-...r-do-you-need/

and also the notes in Appendix B in the book.
