Default API Basics

Good morning.

I need to interface with an API but have no idea where to start.

Can I do the programming in notepad?

Are there DLLs that I need to worry about?

Any ideas would be appreciated.

Thank you.

Sal

Hi there,

I think you'll need to provide *a lot* more details if you want a useful answer to this question.

- What's your host going to be? Classic ASP? (Since you posted in the classic ASP forum)
- What API is it? Is it COM? .NET? Web Service based?
- Does the API has documentation to help you get started?
- What is the expected input and output. In other words, why do you need to use this API in the first place.?

And yes, you could potentially program in Notepad, but as Mike Brind suggested: you could crawl on your knees to work every day ;-) Depending on your programming language / environment, you want to look at an existing tool (IDE) such as Visual Studio. Which ones depends on the answers to the previous questions.

Cheers,

Imar

Imar,

Thank you for your reply. Here are the answers to your questions:

I would like to program my interface with the API in a Classic ASP program.

The API is CyberSource Simple Order API Client for ASP.

My goals is to create an ASP page that allows users to submit an EFT payment. The user will enter her checking account number, routing number and dollar amount. I'll call the API which will verify the info, tell me if the info is good or not and then ideally, submit the EFT to the bank.

I believe this would be a web services API.

There is some documentation, but I'm unsure how to get started.

Thank you!

Sal

This is a critical question to get answered as it defines your possibilities as well as the code you need to write.

Did you check the Cybersource website? A quick Google search and some browsing brings up lots of background information about the process and how to integrate with their system including a dedicated Classic ASP tutorial.

Cheers,

Imar
