Microsoft TechEd 2010 Day 1 Keynote: Cloud Computing
Bob Muglia
Microsoft's Bob Muglia started TechEd by telling us this week we'd see how Microsoft is delivering on Cloud Computing, an idea Microsoft's been talking about since 2003 (although under the name Dynamic IT at the time). But he and his co-presenters immediately dived into some deep technical features, for example showing Visual Studio testing features, rather than discussing any big picture new or coming initiatives. Bob did announce that betas of SP1 for both Windows 7 and Windows Server 2008 R2 will be available in July. And he reminded attendees of the Internet Explorer 9 features that were previewed at Microsoft Mix 2010.
Doug Purdy Extending Applications to the Cloud
Doug's big announcement is that .NET 4.0 Framework is available for Azure in the the cloud and it's available today. He also announced a toolset for Azure that is a Visual Studio add-in including a designer for various Azure features, Intellitrace support for Azure, App Fabric, and more.
Augusto Valdez Windows Phone 7
A big focus with Windows Phone 7 is surfacing the information you need on the home screen. So, one of the first things you see on the phone are tiles for email, text, people, phone calls, and other applications showing which applications have updated (texts, emails, missed calls, etc) that you haven't seen yet. Of most interest to many TechEd attendees of course was the SharePoint client on the phone.
