How i can use web service in asp.net.

i m showing some database values on my web page using AJAX request to server. For this, i want to use a web service which show the database changes on my page(a Refresh button on web page). When client clicks on this button, an AJAX request is called to the server. The AJAX request is dependent on the client action(Same as in Orkut when we hav some new data, it shows a refresh button).
I m using Java script AJAX coding process.
U can suggest me new way, If i m going on wrong way.

You can use .dll file for this purpose.
