While very new to the Wrox forums I am not new to coding. I would say post away and someone should be able to answer your questions. Also have you set a path that you want to follow and thought of a project or two?

I have learned that just reading or trying to learn programming without a purpose has caused me a lot of frustration.

In order to learn HTML5 quickly:

1. Read books like HTML5 In easy steps by Mike McGrath or any other.

2. W3Schools Online Web Tutorials and tutorialspoint.com if you have web access in your home or hostel.

3. You can also take various mooc's provided by Udacity , edx and coursera. And out of these I really recommend you mooc's of Udacity (they are amazing and nothing beats them ) check out : Nanodegree Programs

4. Consider Google and youtube as your friends to be referred for any problem..

W3School is an amazing website to learn HTML. You can make use of that.

There is a code editor in the website which will help you to experiment with the code.

html.net is another great website for beginners.

Try to create web pages by your own.

Use a simple text editor like Atom.
I would recommend Notepad++ (Windows only) if you are a complete beginner. Its user interface might be familiar to you.

When you become confident, you can use the developer tool in the browser.

All these tools are available for free
