Default Domain name showing up in the user name

Hello,

Testing out Sharepoint 2010 here at work. Quick question, how come the users that log in to their Sharepoint page have the naming convention DOMAIN\username ? Is there a way to make it just display the user name?

The reason is that with the DOMAIN\ in front of the user name, it makes the user search function less efficient.

Testing on a Server 2008 machine.

Thanks in advance.
